Samsung and Valens Semiconductor strengthen their partnership to advance the MIPI A-PHY standard, supporting next-generation automotive connectivity.

Israeli chipmaker Valens Semiconductor (NYSE: VLN) yesterday announced that it is partnering with Samsung to advance the MIPI A-PHY standard, aimed at enabling high-speed sensor connectivity for next-generation vehicles.

Taejoong Song, Samsung Vice President said the partnership is timely as the automotive industry faces immense pressure to meet the demands of the next generation vehicles.

OEMs are demanding next-gen connectivity to reach higher levels of ADAS and autonomous driving. A-PHY delivers the key technical breakthroughs to make this possible.

He went on to emphasis the importance of building a reliable and scalable foundation for the automotive industry, noting that the collaboration with Valens Semiconductor will help vehicles manage the growing data demands safely and efficiently.

Samsung VP Highlights Critical Role of MIPI A-PHY Partnership

Recent research has shown that the automotive semiconductor industry market could reach around $78 billion by 2030, doubling the chip content per vehicle. In order to mananage this growing complexity, open standards like the MIPI A-PHY are essential.

MIPI A-PHY is the first automotive industry standard designed for high-speed in-vehicle connectivity, linking sensors and displays to ensure data flows quickly and reliably, which is critical for advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous driving.

Supporting this partnership is Rimoon Agaiby, VP of Samsung Semiconductor Foundry in EMEA, who said that the industry depends on proven standards and a manufacturing foundation built on trust. He highlighted how crucial Samsung’s partnership with Valens in producing next-generation MIPI A-PHY chipsets marks a critical step.

He went on to state that the collaboration is not just about advancing technology, but also about creating a safe and more dependable future for the automotive industry.

Together we provide a low-risk path for the entire automotive ecosystem and enable a critical industry standard with the stability and quality it requires as a stable foundation for the future of automotive safety.

A Partnership Set to Change the Future of Automotive Connectivity

Samsung and Valens Semiconductor partnership marks a milestone for the MIPI A-PHY standard. Gideon Ben Zvi, Valens CEO said the involvement of a major company like Samsung in the MIPI A-PHY standard ecosystem highlights the importance of the project in the future of automotive connectivity.

The support of MIPI A-PHY by an electronics giant like Samsung is proof positive that this standard is the future of automotive connectivity.

Valens and Samsung have a long history of working together. Samsung was an early investor in Valens, and both companies were founding members of the HDBaseT Alliance, now ProAV’s largest interoperable ecosystem with more than 200 member companies.
